Cycle of (NYC) Life
Wednesday, 05 March 2008

I hear a second voice thrown into the foray of nonsense. Of course, when you have so many people around along with said homeless person cursing and doing all sorts of stuff, things are bound to happen.

From what I remember, the homeless person got into the other person's face trying to start a shove match and the exchange of words went as so:

Person A: "Your breath stinks!"
Person B (homeless): "Your mom stinks!  I'm rich bitch!"

I couldn't help but laugh at that last comment because after a year or so without Dave Chapelle (@Comedy Central), his words still ring loud even on this gloomy Wednesday morning.

After a few more exchanging of the words, the homeless person calls the other person a 'fag' while walking away. Person A decides to throw his newspaper and a small, black plastic bag (like the ones you get at a deli) at the homeless person. Person A then  challenges the homeless to go upstairs to talk to the police. Both eventually make their way up and my train finally arrives.

As I step onto the train, I noticed that the black bag and newspaper were still on the ground. The train doors slide shut behind me and as I looked through the door window, another homeless person picks up the black bag. He slowly checks the contents and pulls out a small package of cookies and stuffs it into his bag of belongings.

It's amazing to see how things sort of 'work out' in the city. One man's projectile is another man's frustration and another man's breakfast. I guess it's another reason why I enjoy NYC life because if I was still living in NJ, I'd be blogging about something a lot more mundane. Perhaps about a commute on the Garden State Parkway?

I have inadvertently stumbled across your blog and absolutely love it. Being part of the grey British middle-class I find it exciting to see life through the observations of different people, particularly those in different countries or cultures.

I'm adding yours to the list of sites I visit. You don't happen to have an RSS feed lurking about anywhere?

Regards,
CK

Hey Craig, glad to hear that the blog provided some insight to life across the pond. :)

As for the RSS feed, voila! It's up top in the main navigation. And yeah, "Contact Me" and the "RSS" should probably be in a separate group from the other nav items.

That's excellent. Can't believe I missed it the first time around.

Keep it up!

RSS Gene,

You might want to make the RSS feed available via autodiscovery:

P.S. I love the line, "One man's projectile is another man's frustration and another man's breakfast." I need to find an appropriate place to use it.

RSS autodiscovery Added! Thanks Prescott!
