This is the piece that needed to be replaced. Notice how the center of the connection looks as though it's connected by a screw... well, it's not. It was caulked/glued/whatever together. Great! And out of all the stores I visited, none of them had the 90 degree elbow piece I needed in order to replicate this piece.

So after spending some time roaming the aisles of Home Depot on 23rd street (?), I managed to devise my own DIY plumbing solution. It consisted of a mini-hacksaw / a long aluminum tube with screws on both sides / some tube clamps / and a long, thick hose originally for a dishwashing machine. After a few hours of hacking the aluminum tube with my brand spanking new hacksaw and then fitting the rubber hose over each end, I was able to accomplish the following:

Er, yea, it might not be the prettiest of things, but it works. Anyways, no worries, I'm going to stick to my day job. :)
