After only 30 minutes of sleep from the night before, we all wake up at around 5AM to prepare for the fish market extravaganza. Ships start docking into the port at 3AM and the fish auctions start at around 5:20AM. Obviously, we were already running late. ![]() Running on Asian Time... Already late ![]() Making way through the empty subway station While on our way to the train, we spot a homeless person sleeping in a corner. One important thing to note: the homeless people in Japan are cleaner than some of the none-homeless people in NYC and perhaps even more well-mannered. ![]() So early that the homeless are still asleep ![]() Hurtin For people planning to visit the Tsujiki Fish Market, it's about a 30 minute train ride from Asakusa located at the Tsukijishijō Station on the Toei Ōedo Line and Tsukiji Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. ![]() Fish Market is THAT Way /Flex ![]() Where is Everyone?! ![]() Ahh! Almost sideswiped by man on giant scooter ![]() Trucks loading up for the day We obviously missed the main event, the fish auction, but hey, thank goodness for youtube! ![]() That's about it Bob, lets hit the road! ![]() Venturing into the unknown Without a fish auction to witness, we venture into the confines of the dark warehouse in search of colossal squid with eyes the size of soccer balls... ![]() This is it?! Dammit Janet! ![]() Mmm... Tuna... breakfast... mmm ![]() Even more MMM ![]() Tourists... I mean... Gavin and Stella ![]() Overview of the Inards of the Warehouse ![]() Reminiscent of an underground drug ring ![]() Sleeping on the job ![]() A side of ikura for my breakfast ![]() Deep We finally make our way to the fish auction area. This section is frequented by so many darn tourists that they even designated an area for us tourists to stand / watch / take pictures / etc. ![]() Post Fish Auction... Hey Buddy, Nice form! ![]() Aww com'on, it was a compliment ![]() The seaweed is always greener ![]() In somebody else's lake ![]() Will and I demand you to guess that tune! Okay, so overall, this fish market was an average experience. I mean, take a walk down Mott Street in Chinatown and you'll get a small glimpse as to what you'll see at this fish market. The only issue I had was that our group and all the other tourists were getting in the way of the fish market workers. It's early in the morning... would you like people getting in the way of your job? ![]() Tourists, Straight Ahead! ![]() Tourists, Straight Ahead! Blocking the road ![]() Tourists! Yea, but we're cooler. ![]() A group of tourists planning their raid on the fish market ![]() Train Station Art... Way better than the crap we have in the NYC subway stations... like the one with flying pigs After an hour or so meandering abouts the Tsukiji Fish Market, a few of us lost our appetite for seafood and decided to hit up the local Denny's. OMG, killer omelette and sausage. Note: Most of the items on the menu are Japanese-influenced because the American version doesn't quite cut it. ![]() Denny's, Japanese Style
